Many women feel as if their life is like the wheel
on a cycling bike. If you ever took a cycling class with an over energetic
instructor, you know just what I mean (lol). I remember when I took my first and last
class; I thought there was no end to this madness. Pedaling at different speeds with little rest in between
isn’t for the faint of heart. I do applaud those who are able to pedal their
way to a healthier lifestyle, but it wasn’t for me. What is balance, and
why do we need it?
Balance is used in different aspects. In design, balance is the placement element on the page; so that the text and graphic are evenly distributed throughout the layout. In finances, it
is used to compute the difference between the
debits and credits of an account. Just to name a few; however there is another
important facet to balance. It is an instrument for weight as a beam that is
supported freely in the center and has two pans of equal weight suspended from
its end.
This aspect
of balance is what we are seeking, having the ability to balance both our
emotional and physical well being. For most women this is an area that seems to
fall within the cracks of our day. As a woman, we are pulled in many different
directions. Every day is filled with something new; even as I write this blog,
I have several projects waiting for my attention. And as you read this blog, I
am quite certain you also have pending projects screaming for your attention.
So, let’s take a quick look at three simply steps you can apply to give you a
well rounded balanced life.
1. Prioritize – make a list of what is important
to you. Begin each day spending time with what matters most. (I recommend using
this time as ME time) Before work or getting the children ready for school use
this time for meditation, exercise or enjoy a cup of hot tea while taking in
the morning air. Now, after you have refresh move on to your next priority (ex
family, work, etc.).
2. Organize – create an order system that will
enable you to channel your time and energy into what is most important. For example,
I have created a number system to organize what is more important to me during
the day. Purpose, preparation, and positioning just to name a few is a part of
my number system. I organize my day base
on my purpose (vision for my life),
then, I prepare (research or
studying) and next, I position myself
to take action.
3.
Disciple
– self disciple, to
many is a dirty word, it is equated to weakness or lack of self control;
however, for those who decides to build self disciple, it can be a daunting challenge.
Pluto the famous philosopher said "The first and best victory is to conquer
self." I believe disciple is the glue
that holds all three steps together. Matter of fact, I strongly believe it’s
what keeps us balance. Just like step #2, I also created a number system of
both weak and strong areas that helps me to keep my life balance. I use my
strengths to help improve my weakness.
I hope these quick steps help you to live a more
balance life. And hopefully the next time someone mentions the word balance; your reply would be “I am working on that!”
